In August 2006, we were invited to join the management of A1GP to discuss the forthcoming second season of the world wide series. After lengthy discussions it became apparent that there were a number of underlying problems, which they experienced in year one that needed changing in year two.
After successfully winning the tender, D.O.T commenced a full review of the logistics operations and applied our experience and knowledge to the advantage of the series. One of the outcomes was that we were able to load an additional 16,000 KG of cargo on the charter flights at no extra cost, on aircraft that were previously believed to be at maximum volume capacity.
Another key success was to make the race cargo inter modal. For the movement from Indonesia to New Zealand, we successfully switched all of the cargo from an airfreight to seafreight configuration. This solved a number of logistical challenges; such as storage through the Christmas period, access to the circuit and reducing budget.
A1GP were exceptionally satisfied with the service provided, and quote “almost forgot about logistics as the headache no longer existed.”
