When Shell decided to highlight their 50 year partnership with Ferrari, they did it in style. Having worked in Formula One through thick and thin, they believed this experience would provide a great opportunity to highlight this partnership and say thank you for the recent dominance and success by commissioning an advert.
The concept was to show a Formula One car completing a lap of the world, starting in Rome with a rare 1950’s model and as it turned off to the colosseum, the location and model changes, and this time it is Times Square in New York. This continues to the next location and the next, each time the car getting newer and newer. Sydney – Australia; Rio de Janeiro – Brazil; Hong Kong; Monte Carlo and back to Rome.
D.O.T was responsible for co-ordination of all freight and on site delivery at each location, handling all customs formalities and liaising with the advertising agency, TV crew and customer, to deliver the correct equipment to the filming location on time. Due to the value of the cars and secrecy surrounding this advert, all cars were put into purpose built crates for added protection and to keep the cars away from prying eyes.
The advertising agency, Partizan, stated, “D.O.T made itself fully available for this project, and with the requirements changing daily, reacted to our every request. No task was too big and the staff on site were knowledgeable and helpful, which was a big contribution to pulling this off!”
