The sheer scale of the Olympic events is daunting enough, but the snow, ice and freezing temperatures of the winter ones add a fresh set of challenges. In conjunction with the official logistics partner, Pacific Overseas Forwarding, we imported tons of TV equipment on behalf of companies from the UK and Belgium and even as far afield as Melbourne and Johannesburg.
The freight was forwarded by air and sea – some of the latter going by container, while 14 trucks and two trailers complete with camera blimps started their journey by Ro-Ro ferry. A dedicated D.O.T team was stationed locally in order to facilitate the in and outbound movements of equipment to a number of venues. These included the Whistler Sliding Centre and Olympic Park, and the Richmond Olympic Oval. The two blimps were installed (by Aerial Camera Systems) to provide scene setting footage of the Olympic Park and downtown Whistler.
Said Sales and Marketing Director Alistair Crompton, “We are proud of our contribution to the games in Beijing and Vancouver and now look forward to assisting a range of clients with the fast approaching London event.”
